Google released Authorship back in 2011. They said this improves searcher’s experience and help them get
high quality content to read. The early adopters of Google Authorship realized it and now having benefits of being verified and authorities of specific content.
You haven’t done it yet, you really should not wait for this. Google authorship will bring you more results and traffic and high quality traffic to your blog/website.
In the Webmaster Help Video, Matt said that while he continues to support anonymity, “if we know who the real world people are who are actually writing content, that could be really useful as well and might be able to improve search quality.“
There’s always been a question mark about having a real content author verified in in Authorship or you could also use a factious character.
Let’s have an example of a businessman who enquires about his business website, “Can I use a company mascot as an author and have authorship annotation in search results? For my pest control business, I’d like to write as the “Pied Piper.?”
To which, Maile Ohye Developer Programs Tech Lead at Google, responds by saying: “You’re free to write articles in the manner you prefer — your users may really like the Pied Piper idea. However, for authorship annotation in search results, Google prefers to feature a human who wrote the content. By doing so, authorship annotation better indicates that a search result is the perspective of a person, and this helps add credibility for searchers.”
So what about websites using anonymous author or a factious character as verified Blog author?
These thoughts reinforce the concept that authorship is meant to support recognized, real authors and suggests that Google may penalize or devalue the signal when used improperly.

Based on the prior two reasons, I believe that if and when Google starts using Authorship as a direct ranking signal for search (the much-talked-about “AuthorRank”), Google will find ways to downgrade or even penalize Authorship used improperly. Google reps have said repeatedly that the intention of Authorship is to help people connect with topically-rich content by recognized real authors.- Said an market expert
