Basic Practices for SEO Beginners

A beautiful Sunday morning and today am going to be writing an article about practices that beginners must follow. Here you go:

1. It’s all about H tags

H1, H2, H3 are the most important in modern day practice for the users but not the search engines to any further extent. So location doesn’t matter anyways. But all that matter is, how you use them and there are logical. Don’t just stuff your H tags anywhere in posts.

2. Making DOFOLLOW or NOFOLLOW

Use plugins that stops spam in comments. If you don't want all the comments to be full of links. Just make them “no-follow” so they don’t affect your site’s ranking. High amount of out-bound links can also harm your site.

3. Canonical Tags

These tags are not so old as compared to others and are not being use by webmasters to increase their rankings in search engines. But you know what, these tags can be really handy if you use them accurately. They can help tell search engines about the duplicate content present on your site.

4. Meta Tags

Google doesn’t give importance to meta tags anymore though, but people always forget there are other search engines on the internet. Eg: Yahoo, Bing. If you want to rank for Yahoo and other search engines, you should really use meta tags in your website head.

5. Parameter Driven URLs

It is highly recommended that you do not use them. But even if parameter driven URLs are to be used and cannot be avoided then make sure the URL doesn't have more than 2 parameters.

6. Footer Links

You should be careful about using links in your website footer. Make sure there are not more than 20 internal links in the footer. More than that will make your scheme look bad and spam.

7. 301 redirections

301 redirects are the most search engine friendly redirect practice for web page redirection. It’s not that hard to implement and also doesn't affect rankings of your website on the search engine. Although it is the safest way to redirect, it doesn't mean that it doesn't have any disadvantages.

8. Content Content Content

No matter how many techniques are generated for the Search Engine Optimization of websites but one technique that has been recommended by webmasters as well as search engines is the unique and fresh content. Not only unique content helps in increasing the ranking but also makes sure that users find your website interesting and thus increasing your viewership.
